Therapy & Counseling

Approach to Treatment

Our providers take an integrated approach to treatment and believe it is important to obtain feedback from our patients.

With written consent from our patients, our providers will collaborate with other health care professionals and significant individuals in that patient’s life to help improve symptoms.

Many of our providers use a cognitive behavioral approach to treatment. Simply stated, this means that they strive to positively influence negative thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors while focusing on solutions.

What to Expect from Therapy & Counseling

At the initial session, the provider gathers patient history, asks about symptoms, develops a treatment plan, and discusses recommendations. If therapy & counseling is recommended, patients typically have counseling every one to two weeks to focus on needs identified during the initial session. Once symptoms start improving, then appointments can be spaced out. Most intake and therapy & counseling sessions last 45 to 60 minutes.

Given presenting symptoms, a provider may recommend a psychological evaluation or neuropsychological testing. If so, they will discuss this during the initial session and will explain the steps involved.
