Rob B. Welch, PhD., CADC, SAP is a licensed psychologist in both Kentucky and Hawaii. He is also certified as an alcohol and drug abuse counselor and helps adolescents, adults, and elders gain freedom from drug abuse.
Dr. Welch earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati with a major in psychology, his master’s degree from the University of Kentucky in psychology, and his doctoral degree from the University of Kentucky in psychology. He has more than 20 years’ experience working with teens, adults, seniors, couples, and families in a private practice setting. He has served as an adjunct college professor, Division Director for Children’s Services in the Kentucky Department of Social Services, Executive Director of Kentucky’s Children Psychiatric Hospital, and on a national advisory board to the President of Family Service America. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors.Dr. Welch employs a variety of treatment approaches including cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, systemic and mindfulness techniques that have been proven to effectively increase happiness and reduce worries and fears. He believes investing in spiritual growth and awareness can be a significant path for positive change. Dr. Welch helps people gain satisfying relationships, self-confidence, children who succeed, freedom from drug abuse, and strong families. He does this by providing clients with tools to help them communicate more effectively, ease excessive worries, and manage stress. Dr. Welch has a great interest in performing substance abuse evaluations and certified substance abuse treatment; however, he also treats depression, anxiety, anger, behavioral issues, bipolar mood disorder, caregiver burnout, marital/couples issues, divorce, eating disorders, grief, LGTBQ concerns, obsessive compulsive disorder, and sexual disorders.
In addition to his passion for psychology, Dr. Welch loves exercising and spending time with his darling wife and their family. He also enjoys working in the backyard, meditating, classic rock music, The Beatles and Star Trek. One of Dr. Welch’s favorite quotes was when Mark Twain said, "…I don’t know why they call it common sense…. It ain’t that common..."
